A bill to ban Russians from holding public office was registered in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, according to one of the initiators of the resolution – the Deputy of the faction “People’s Front” Georgy Logvinsky.

“We designed this bill to prohibit persons who, in addition to the citizenship of Ukraine, have the same nationality of the aggressor state, from being public servants, deputies of all levels, judges, law enforcement officials or to take leadership positions at state and municipal enterprises”, – he wrote on his page on Facebook.

“Today, the Ukrainian legislation does not recognise the legal effects of dual nationality, and this, in turn, poses a threat from citizens of the aggressor state to the above positions and activities against the national interests of Ukraine”, – he wrote.

Meanwhile, the opposite measure is valid in Ukraine against the army.

On November 12th, a law allowing foreigners and persons without citizenship to be contracted into service in the armed forces of Ukraine entered into force.

On November 3rd, Poroshenko signed a law allowing foreigners and stateless persons to be contracted into service in the armed forces of Ukraine.

In addition, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in first reading, adopted a draft law simplifying the acquisition of citizenship by foreigners serving in the Ukrainian army.
