Chemistry military specialists of the United States, together with representatives of the Ukrainian energy generating company “Energoatom”, and the staff of the Ministry of fuel and energy, arrived to inspect the burial site of radioactive materials and waste located near the village Solіdarne in the Bilokurakyne district of the Lugansk region.
The repository was created after the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and includes also the component units from the military equipment that was used during the liquidation of the accident.
Currently, the inspection of storage is carried out in strict secrecy, the battalion “Donbass” is employed to protect the secrecy of this inspection. As of this moment, the military personnel have not been informed that they are in a zone of high radiation.
Experts suggest that the inspection aims at identifying the possible volume of storage of radioactive material in the vault.
Earlier, the Ukrainian media reported about the intention of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to allow the storage of radioactive waste and materials from Europe and USA on the territory of Ukraine. One of the main places of storage of such hazardous materials is likely to become the areas of Donbass occupied by Ukrainian troops.
As a reminder, the UAF used radioactive weaponry retrieved from permanent storage in the “Chernobyl zone” in the combat zone in Donbass.
