Aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces continues performing strikes on units of international terrorist organizations on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic. In the course of 10 days of the year 2016, the Russian aircraft have performed 311 combat sorties engaging 1097 objects in the Aleppo, Idlib, Latakia, Hama, Homs, Damascus, Deir ez-Zor, Hasakah, Daraa, and Raqqah provinces.
The strikes were performed against infrastructure, oil production facilities, concentrations of militants’ military hardware and manpower in order to reduce the combat potential of terrorist groupings and provide direct support to the units of the patriotic forces, which are fighting against the ISIS.
As a result of air strikes made by the aircraft of the Aerospace Forces, terrorist groupings are suffering significant losses in hardware and manpower. That allows the Syrian army and units of the patriotic opposition to continue offensive despite bad weather (heavy showers and low temperatures).
In December 2015, militants were dislodged from 134 cities and settlements, and in the first days of 2016 – from another 19.
The best success was achieved in the provinces of Aleppo, Latakia, Hama, Homs and Raqqah. In the Aleppo province, the expansion of the security zone around the Kwaires airfield is being continued. Just in the course of the last few days, the advance of the Syrian army in the northern direction has constituted 5 km. As a result of air strikes and active offensive operations of the governmental troops, militants were dislodged from the city of Najjara, the settlement Ayishah was put under control.
In the south-west of the province in the direction of Idlib, extremists have been knocked out of Abu Ruwayl and Hawbar suffering great losses. In the Latakia province, units of the Syrian army are conducting successful offensive operations in the northern and eastern directions. In the course of the last few days, several important heights have been put under control. Six inhabited areas have been liberated from militants, among them – the key settlements for the future development of the offensive – Mughayriyah and Kadin.
As a result of development of the success achieved by the governmental troops, militants are suffering losses and are forced to leave their positions. However, despite all the efforts of the international community aimed at termination of help provided for terrorists, reinforcements are regularly projected for militants from the territory of Turkey to the north-west part of Latakia. In the Hama province, the governmental troops advanced for 12-15 km in the southern-eastern direction liberating Jarniyah, Ramlia and Jarjisah achieving the Nahr al-ʿAsi river. In the Homs province, units of the Syrian army liberated the Mahin city developing offensive in the eastern direction to the city of Al-Qaryatayn.
In the suburbs of Damascus, the governmental forces are conducting severe battles near the Eastern Guta, liberating one area after another. The most advantage is achieved in the directions of Blalia, Nashabiyah and Haush Jarabo. In the Daraa province, units of the Syrian armed forces entered the city of Shaykh Maskin capturing its major part. According to available data, field commanders Bashar Mohammed Al-Katur and Mohammed Izamal were eliminated during the battles. The Russian aviation supports the patriotic forces in fighting international terrorists in the Syrian territories.
Today, the Russian aircraft are performing strikes in the interests of 11 units of the democratic opposition, which is staffed with more than 7,000 people. In the course of several days, the Russian Aerospace Forces have performed 19 airstrikes in the interests of the Djeish Ahrar al-Ashair grouping, origin to the “Southern front” of the Free Syrian Army. At the moment, the detachments are fighting against extremists near al-Taffa and blocking Khosh Hammad in the Daraa province.
Under support of the Russian aviation, the Syrian Democratic Army commanded by Aiman Flyat al-Ghanim continue their offensive on Raqqah, the ISIS capital, and recently they have captured al-Salkhiya, Rdjeman Alaya, al-Kria and Khadriyat Ayn Issa.
“Soureign” and “Chelobiya” units expanded liberated territories on eastern and western sides from the dam over the Euphrates near Mahshiyat al-Tawahin, Jubb Hamzah, Arba’a Seghir, al-Jdeideh, al-Akhmar. At the Southern direction, supported by the Russian aviation, detachments of “Lions of the East” and “Kalamun” advanced by more than 50 kilometers and captured Zaza, Kessara and el-Mhasse in the course of offensive on Palmyra.
At present, detachments of the Syrian patriotic forces continue pressing success at all directions. It is to be mentioned that the number of patriotic opposition units is being increased as a result of work aimed at joining efforts of all forces interested in liberating Syria from international terrorists. The Russian Defence Ministry is confident that only joint efforts taken by the Syrian government and other patriotic forces will allow to achieve the victory over terrorism.
