Ukrainian TV channel “1+1”, owned by oligarch Igor Kolomoisky, broadcasted the new year’s address of President Petro Poroshenko, but it was a cropped version. The blog on the website “Ukrainska Pravda” reported this via journalist Victor Ukolov.

From the start of the movie about the events of 2015 to the introductory statement of the President himself, footage was cut by Kolomoisky of his company “Ukrtransnafta” that lasted 2.5 seconds. Ukolov called it the first case of censorship of the media in relation to the state.

“An unprecedented case of censorship – the oligarchic channel cut the congratulations of the President. Power wasn’t used to censor the media, but rather to favor the owner of the channel to censor the authorities,” the journalist said.

Conflict between the former Governor of Dnepropetrovsk region Kolomoisky and Ukrainian authorities erupted in the spring of 2015 due to the change of management of “Ukrtransnafta”. In Russia, the oligarch opened a criminal case regarding the events in the South-East of Ukraine. Kolomoisky is suspected of financing some of the volunteer battalions, which had used prohibited means and methods of warfare.
