Russia may soon restore direct flights with Egypt, as was reported by a correspondent to Rain, Tuesday, 26th January, quoting State Duma speaker Sergei Naryshkin during his visit to Egypt.

“Now the representatives of the aviation authorities of our country, along with representatives of governmental departments responsible for security are actively working on developing a package of measures that would ensure the safety of Russian tourists in Egypt”, — Naryshkin said.

According to the speaker of the Duma, the collapse of the Russian aircraft over the skies of Sinai has not affected relations between Russia and Egypt.

“We assured our colleagues that the terrorist act in the skies over Sinai in no case influenced the warm and most friendly attitude of Russians to the people of Egypt,” — said Naryshkin.

He added that Russia and Egypt intend to develop a “tourist exchange”.

On November 8th, Russia stopped flights to Egypt after the A321 flight crashed from the Russian company “Kogalymavia” on the Sinai Peninsula on October 31st. The cause of the crash was recognized as an on-board explosion. Responsibility for the attack was claimed by the terrorist group “Islamic State” (banned in Russia).

FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov said that flights to Egypt must be suspended until the reasons for the collapse of the liner are made clear. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin supported this initiative.

A source in the government reported that the ban on flights to Egypt “will not last months and years.” Similar measures can be introduced “in respect of other countries.”
