[FR note: we suspect these kinds of headlines are meant to confuse or distract from the actual scope of Russian help in procuring S-300+ systems for Iran, Syria, etc. through third party sources.  The S-300 system was developed in the mid 1970’s, and they are produced by a number of countries which can act as third party proxies for production and delivery to Iran.  Upgrades to the system make it a relevant system today, and involve primarily replacing manual functions with more accurate computerized ones.  It is an official ‘secret’ in Russia and Iran as to whether or not Iran has received S-300’s.  The ‘scandal’ revolving around this suit involves one firm in particular, which appears to have been an intentional point of focus for news stories meant to create the impression that Russia has not been involved in assisting Iran with S-300 acquisition. – Flores ]

Iran
will withdraw the four billion dollar lawsuit against Russia for non-delivery
of S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems. A source familiar with the situation told
“Interfax” about this on Wednesday at the MAKS-2015 airshow in
Zhukovsky,

“The
parties have agreed that the lawsuit against Rosoboronexport , which was filed
by Iran in the Geneva court with the requirement to pay a penalty in the amount
of about USD 4 billion will be withdrawn”, – said the Agency interlocutor.

According to him, the agreement on this issue
was reached in April during the visit of the Iranian defense Minister Hossein Dehkan
to Moscow. Thus, at present there are no obstacles to signing a new contract.

In early July it was reported that Iran has
filed a lawsuit against the Russian company Rosoboronexport in the
international arbitration court in Geneva with the requirement to fulfil the
contract to supply S-300 and to pay a penalty.

Meanwhile, according to experts, this lawsuit didn’t
have any prospects, since the implementation of this contract was suspended as
a result of international sanctions on the weapons supply against Tehran. Moscow
officially announced that it cancels the contract on s-300, after which he
returned the advance payment in the amount 166.8 million
dollars.
