Human Rights Watch: Mosul still looks like a war zone in the post-ISIS period - VIDEO

January 6, 2018 - Fort Russ News - Paul Antonopoulos

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Human Rights Watch (HRW) Senior Iraq Researcher Belkis Wille stated that "the project of rebuilding Mosul is a long one," when speaking in reaction to a recent Ruptly report from Mosul, in Baghdad on Monday.

Wille noted that while life in "neighbourhoods to the outskirts of West Mosul" is starting to take on a "semblance of normalcy," the recovery work in the centre of West Mosul, the Old City, "has barely begun."

Wille then said the city still looks like "the middle of a war zone."

ISIS took over Mosul in 2014 and it was not until 2017 that the Iraqi Army with militia allies were able to push the terrorist group out of the city.
