The Russian army nullifies the efforts of the West - Ukrainian general

    January 4, 2018 - FRN -

The anti-Russian sanctions introduced by the West will not have a significant impact on the adjustment of Moscow's foreign policy.

This was stated in an interview by the ex-head of the Security Service of Ukraine, the representative of Ukraine in the security subgroup of the tripartite contact group in Minsk, Army General Yevhen Marchuk.

"When will this suite of actions, squeezed by sanctions, take down this King by the name of Putin?" - the host asked.

"The situation, to our great regret, can develop for us in a disadvantageous way. Russia outstripped the West, having broken many important international agreements that provided balance and stability: withdrew from the treaty on conventional armed forces in Europe, which no one paid attention to, spat on the Budapest Memorandum, now the agreement on missiles of medium and short range, -Americans are raising alarm. Russian submarines have found NATO cables in the Mediterranean, and there is a threat that they could be damaged," Marchuk said.

He also claims that Russia turned its armed forces into a foreign policy factor, something that had not been practiced before, with the exception of the Soviet period. In particular, Marchuk drew attention to the Russian military operation in Syria.

"On the one hand, sanctions negatively affect Russia. On the other hand, they have achieved a strong synchronising of the military component, especially with foreign policy," said the former head of the SBU.

Foreign policy and the military are usually closely linked - the General seems to have made superfluous observations, yet omit entirely that NATO and the US carry out their foreign policy predominantly with the military.
