Stalingrad: Bestselling book by British historian now banned in Ukraine

    January 23 , 2017 - Fort Russ News -

British military historian Sir Antony Beevor has called the ban on his bestselling book Stalingrad - "absurd." The book is now banned for sale on the territory of Ukraine.

The authorities of Ukraine consider this work "anti-Ukrainian," especially the paragraphs which state that Ukrainian nationalists committed the murder of children on the orders of the SS.

Sergei Oleinik, head of the department for control of licensing radio and television broadcasting in Ukraine, said that this data is based on unreliable Soviet sources.

Beevor himself, however, noted that he relied on "absolutely reliable German sources, not Soviet ones", including the information of German officer Helmut Großkurt who spoke out against Nazism.

The historian called the position of the Ukrainian authorities "absolutely irrational."

"Many residents of Ukraine are also outraged by the fact that they starting to ban books. - he declared. This is largely reminiscent of a fascist past the world has seen before.

"It is not permissible for any state to interfere with the process of writing history, but I'm afraid that we are faced with the rewriting of history, and not only in dictatorial regimes." - added Beevor.
