Russia, Turkey may coordinate on operation against Kurdish-held enclave in northern Syria

December 12, 2017 - Fort Russ News - Paul Antonopoulos

ANKARA, Turkey - Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu claimed to NTV television channel on Tuesday that Ankara will coordinate any potential operation against the Kurdish-held African enclave in northern Syria with Russia.

"Threats for Turkey are coming from Afrin," Cavusoglu claimed.

"We may enter this region without a warning," Cavusoglu continued.

"If we carry out the operation there, we will agree on all its aspects with our allies, including Russia," he said.

The Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) are a branch of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), that Ankara considers as a terrorist organization as it seeks autonomy or independence from Turkey in eastern Anatolia.

The YPG control the Afrin enclave.
