November 5, 2017 - Fort Russ News - Paul Antonopoulos

SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba - Cuban President Raul Castro attended a ceremony commemorating his brother and former President Fidel Castro in Santiago de Cuba's Santa Ifigenia cemetery on Monday.

This marks one year since passing of the Cuban leader.

Among the attendees were Communist Party Secretary Raul Castro and other officials, who paid tribute and laid wreaths for the late Cuban leader.

Fidel Castro passed away aged 90 in Havana on November 25, 2016, prompting emotional responses from supporters and detractors worldwide.

He served as prime minister of Cuba from 1959 to 1976, and then as president from 1976 to 2008, in which time he survived geopolitical tensions and scores of US assassination attempts.
