As Korean peninsula heats up, US-Japan-South Korea conduct joint military exercises to intimidate North Korea

December 11, 2017 - Fort Russ News - Paul Antonopoulos

TOKYO, Japan - The headquarters of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force said that Japan, South Korea and the United States have begun joint naval exercises on Monday because of the hostility and tension on the Korean Peninsula.

"Amid the worsening security situation around our country over the continuing nuclear tests and missile launches of North Korea, the exercises are aimed at increasing coordination with the US and South Korean naval forces and strengthening relations between our countries," the headquarters said in a statement.

The joint exercises are to go on for two days.

The main bulk of the exercises will focus on coordinating and sharing information on North Korea's missile launches.
