Aid finally begins to arrive in Yemen as Saudi-led coalition lifts blockade - VIDEO

December 26, 2017 - Fort Russ News - Paul Antonopoulos

HUDAIDAH, Yemen - A vessel carrying 25,000 tonnes of fuel arrived in the Houthi-held Red Sea port of Al Hudaydah following the Saudi-led military coalition assurance to lift the blockade to allow aid delivery, footage released on Monday shows.

Vice Chairman of the Red Sea Ports Corporation, Yahya Sharaf, believes, however, that arrived fuel "is not enough to meet the needs of one province", adding that there are "about 18 provinces and more than 20 million Yemenis depending on what comes to the port of Hudaydah."

The Saudi-led military coalition announced earlier via its state news agency that the Red Sea port of Hudaydah would be reopened to allow for the arrival of food, aid and commercial fuel.

The decision follows an attack made by Houthi rebels on Riyadh, when they reportedly planned to hit the Royal Palace with a ballistic missile. The missile was reportedly intercepted by Saudi Arabia.

The conflict in Yemen has been ongoing since 2015. According to the UN, the civil war has claimed the lives of more than 15,000 people.
