WATCH Erdogan blast NATO for using his name on an enemy-list during training exercises

ANKARA, Turkey - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticised the decision to use his name on an enemy-chart during NATO war games in Norway, at a speech in Rize on Saturday, also rebuffing a NATO apology for the incident.

The scandal led to the withdrawal of Turkish troops from the exercise.

Erdogan said, "just yesterday, you followed the impudence during the NATO manoeuvre in Norway. There are some mistakes which could only be made by cowards, not fools."

NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg issued a statement saying: “I apologise for the offence caused.” He said the incident was the result of an “individual’s actions” and did not reflect the views of the alliance.
He added that the individual was removed from the exercise and an investigation was underway. “It will be for the Norwegian authorities to decide on any disciplinary action,” Stoltenberg added. “Turkey is a valued NATO ally, which makes important contributions to allied security.”
NATO has the second largest standing army in the military alliance but in recent times has been strengthening ties with Russia.
