Russia has begun delivering T-90 battle tanks to Iraq.

73 tanks are therefore scheduled to arrive  in Oum Qasr port in Basra by the end of the year.

Back in July, Iraq and Russia signed a contract on delivering 73 battle tanks to Iraq.

The Iraqi Army reportedly wants to update its a bit dated arsenal that predominantly relies on T-72, T-55 and BMP-1.

Although Iraq, for the most part, has been purchasing Russian military equipment, its arsenal became loaded with American-made stuff after the fall of Saddam Hussein.

The T-90 battle tanks could play an important role in defeating terrorism problem in the country as they are capable of confusing majority of guided missile types.
