Bolivia has begun preparations to commemorate the death of Argentine revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara who was killed almost 50 years ago, on October 9 1967 to be specific, in Bolivia in operation orchestrated by the CIA.

"It's not a time to cry for Che,” Bolivian President Evo Morales wrote on his Twitter account. “It's a time for strength, to deepen the anti-imperialist struggle, Che is part of that, in the face of military dictatorships a group of brave armed people rose to enforce sovereignty."

Morales opened celebrations that began yesterday and will end on Monday in Vallegrande, the site where Che' was buried.

Che played a key role in liberating Cuba from the US-backed dictator, Fulgencio Batista, and also attempted to export revolution to the Congo and Bolivia.

The Bolivian Chamber of Deputies also established a new medal to honor anti-imperialist efforts and released a statement stating that the  medal will  represent "struggle against imperialism, the promotion of social equality and socialism."

The celebrations will include music and art exhibitions, information seminars and a series of forums and debates.
