    UN reveals official number of dead and wounded in Donbass

    Twenty-six civilians were killed from mid-May to mid-August 2017 as a result of the conflict in the Donbass, 135 were injured, according to a report of the UN monitoring mission on human rights released on Tuesday.

    "From 16 May to 15 August 2017, the UN monitoring mission on human rights in Ukraine recorded 161 civilian casualties in connection with the conflict (26 killed and 135 wounded), slightly more than half of which were caused by shelling" - reported in the UN.

    The document notes that during this period, the number of civilian casualties decreased, most likely, contributed to the "grain" truce, which began in late June.

    "In general, during the conflict, 2803 civilians were killed and 7 to 9 thousand civilians were injured" - the report says.

    According to the UN mission, in total from April 14, 2014 to August 15, 2017 - 34,766 have been affected by the conflict, including Ukrainian forces, civilians and Donbass militias. This figure includes, according to the mission, 10,225 killed and 24,541 wounded.

    Unofficial figures run much higher than the UN report.
