    Japanese PM dissolves parliament

    Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has dissolved the lower House of Representatives.

    “Under Article 7 of the Constitution, the House of Representatives has been dissolved”, House Speaker Tadamori Oshima told a plenary session of the Council on Thursday. 

    The move comes in the wake of the forthcoming general election, scheduled for October 22nd.

    On Thursday, the center-left Democratic Party decided to effectively disband its Lower House caucus and join Kibo no To (Party of Hope), a new conservative party led by Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike.

    It is noteworthy that the winner of the forthcoming election will face a series of challenges ranging from the ongoing crisis with Pyongyang to boosting the currently stagnating Japanese economy.
