In St. Petersburg on the night of August 8 to 9, the Palace Bridge will resound with the sounds of the Seventh Symphony (The Leningrad Symphony). The famous work will be performed in the framework of the project "Singing bridges" performed by the orchestra of the Leningrad Philharmonic under the direction of Evgeny Mravinsky.

The action is timed to the 75th anniversary of the first performance of Shostakovich's work in besieged Leningrad.

For the first time the Seventh Symphony was sounded in the besieged Leningrad on August 9, 1942. The score was taken to the besieged city by plane.

During the performance, the symphony was broadcast on the radio, as well as on the loudspeakers of the city network. It was heard not only by the inhabitants of the city, but also by the German troops besieging Leningrad.

Much later, two tourists from the GDR, who sought out Eliasberg [who directed the premier], confessed to him: "Then, on August 9, 1942, we realized that we would lose the war." We felt your strength, capable of overcoming hunger, fear and even death ... ".

Seventy-five years later, this symphony still to this day remains for all a symbol of the courage and willpower of the people of Leningrad in the siege years.
Over the years, Shostakovich's work remains a symbol of the strength of will and courage manifested in those times.
