Islam set to outstrip Christianity by 2080 at latest - new research data

The number of Catholics and Protestants in Germany sank to a new low in 2016, with the latter hemorrhaging almost 1.6 percent of members in comparison with the previous year, according to recently released figures. A similar situation was observed with the Catholics in 2016, but the Church took solace in the fact that the rate of decline has slowed since 2015 – but only due to less deaths within that group of people.

While the number of people describing themselves as Christian has declined, the number of regular churchgoers has also decreased. The statistics are worrying for the Christian population. Commenting on the declining numbers, German Catholic Cardinal Gerhard Mueller described the situation as "dramatic" not only in Germany, but in Europe as a whole. Europe is experiencing a "process of forced de-Christianization, which goes far beyond just secularization," he said to an Italian newspaper. He complained about "so-called progressives, who seek victory by hunting down all so-called conservatives."

While the number of Christians is dwindling, the number of Muslims is increasing in Germany. According to the Pew Research Center, by 2050 one in ten Germans will be Muslim and by 2070 at the latest, the global Muslim population will have outstripped that of Christians.

Meanwhile, a German study has revealed that major German publications have played to the tune of the German government in presenting the migrant crisis to the public, and ignoring critical issues in their coverage of the biggest refugee flow into Europe since WWII.

After analysis of thousands of articles published in Germany between February 2015 and March 2016, researchers found that major German publications failed to objectively cover the refugee crisis. The report is available on the website of the Otto Brenner Foundation.

The investigation accuses mainstream newspapers such as Bild, Die Welt, the Sueddeutsche Zeitung, and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, of being in lockstep with German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s refugee policy.

More than 1.6 million asylum-seekers are estimated to have entered Europe between 2014 and 2016. From 2015 on, Chancellor Merkel’s government has conducted what is now known as the ‘open-door’ policy, despite an avalanche of criticism from the public.

Despite massive rallies against Berlin’s policies, the newspapers have overwhelmingly supported “the political elite” by spreading the concept of a ‘welcome culture’ in Germany, the research states. The ‘welcome culture’ has been “transfigured into a kind of magic word’ in which “the Samaritan services are voluntarily provided by the citizens, and are morally requested,” states the publication.
