Benjamin Stimson is at risk of being jailed for the support given to Donbas militants, the Times reports.

Stimson, 41, spent four months in 2015 in Donbas. In October 2015 he gave an interview to BBC, saying he was proud of what he did. Stimson hoped to get Russian citizenship and start a new life in Donbas. "I'm not a terrorist, I'm not like these jihadists, who go to Syria”, he said.

After the interview, Stimson returned to Manchester and was arrested by British authorities and accused of "intent on committing acts of terrorism, being a member of a paramilitary group opposed to the Ukrainian government".

In April 2014 Ukrainian authorities started military operations against self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, which declared independence after the coup in Ukraine in February 2014. According to recent UN data, the victims of the conflict amount to more than 10,000.

Regularisation of the situation in Donbas was discussed during the Contact Group meeting in Minsk. Since September 2014 already three documents outlining the de-escalation process of the conflict have been produced. However, even after the armistice agreements, clashes still occur between the conflicting parties.
