For the past few weeks, Tajik authorities have carried out house-to-house searches in the city of Dushanbe, Tajikistan’s capital.

According to eurasianet.org, albeit “Operation Order” – this the name the governmental campaign – seems aimed at curbing the influence of radical and extremist religious organisations the likes of the IS-sponsored Jamaat Ansarullah and the banned Renaissance Party of Tajikistan (IRPT), also other categories - including political opposition, electricity thieves, and those using illegal light bulbs – have been the object of he thorough searches.

The deliberate targeting of electrical violators comes at the peak of a governmental bid to reduce National electricity consumption.

Amidst claims of due process violation and indiscriminate house searches, a member of the lower house asserted that Tajik nationals receive up to 90,000 text messages daily from alleged terrorist and/or other extremist sources, and 80 percent of those with access to the internet visit websites containing extremist and radical material.
