Three people were reportedly arrested by Moroccan authorities during Friday’s protests in the northern Moroccan city of Al Hoceima, also known as the stronghold of the wide protest movement that began approx. seven months ago.

According to Moroccan media reports, three people, among them the chief editor of the website RifPresse, were arrested on Friday.

More than one hundred people, some of the most prominent protest movement leaders including, have been arrested since May, on charges of posing a danger to the national security.

The protest movement, that first started in the rural areas of Al Hoceima, has since received an overwhelming support in other cities where demonstrations took place in solidarity.

The protests became even more intense, following the arrest of a prominent political activist Nasser Al Zafzafi about three weeks ago.

Al Zafzafi led anti-corruption protests that broke out in October 2016, after one of the local fishermen was crushed to death inside a garbage truck while trying to retrieve his fish.
