Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed the arrival of the US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, despite his Syria stance, in Moscow, noting that Moscow wants to understand Washington 's position on international issues, stressing that its threatening rhetoric will not affect the position of Moscow in any possible way.
Zakharova pointed out that no one understands Washington's strategy so far, adding that no one in fact knows or understands what it intends to do as regards the Middle East, Syria, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, North Korea and The North Atlantic Treaty Organization-related issues.
She also pointed out that in recent times, Washington and Moscow went through different stages of diplomatic relations and that it is important for the Russian side to observe the actions of the US side, saying: "I think it is time to draw through certain conclusions and make some effort so that the US side will be able to correct the mistakes it made. It’s important to see to what extent they have an interest in developing our bilateral relations and what is their strategy as all these things are very important issues. "
Shortly before the start of scheduled talks between the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his US counterpart Rex Tillerson in the Russian capital, Zakharova stated that US warnings to Moscow are completely useless and counterproductive.
The US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson arrived in Moscow later on Tuesday to begin the talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. This is also his first official visit to Moscow after assuming office back in January.
