One civilian was killed and at least 20, children including, were wounded as a result of mortar shells that were fired by terrorists at residential areas of Damascus on Tuesday.
The mortar shells claimed a life of a female resident and injured two other people in the Mezze district. Two more civilians were wounded when mortar shells fell on Al Tijara district.
4 children were also injured when a number of mortar shells hit the Swords Square and Al Tarbah neighbourhood in Jaramana. Material damage was caused to a number of houses in Al Akhdar Square, also located in Jaramana, a suburb on the eastern edge of Damascus.
8 shells caused material damage when they fell on Umayyad Square in central Damascus in addition to a large number of shells being fired at the vicinity of Al Fayhaa Sports City and Bernieh Street. 11 shells also hit Al Assad residential suburb, located north of Damascus.
Terrorist groups frequently target the residential areas of Damascus in an attempt to put pressure on the advancing Syrian forces that are constantly making new gains in Qaboun and other embattled areas, located around Damascus. Aside from Al Nusra Front, jihadists from Jaysh Al Islam and Al Rahman Brigade also targeted civilians in Damascus, despite the latter two obliged themselves to respect a ceasefire agreement between the Syrian government and armed opposition forces.
