Units of the Syrian Army managed to free 34 civilians in the Qaboun neighborhood of Damascus that were previously imprisoned by terrorist groups operating in the area.
The successful operation comes after days-long investigation and gathering of aerial photo material that helped to locate the spot where civilians were kept as prisoners. The operation was difficult as it required the civilians to remain unharmed.
On Wednesday morning, army units also foiled another attack by Al Nusra Front terrorists who were trying to make an assault on the workers’ housing and the military posts in the vicinity of Al Zara thermal power station, located in the southern countryside of Hama province. Scores of terrorists were killed during their failed attempt. Some of them, however, managed to flee.
Meanwhile, new progress was made in the surrounding areas of Palmyra. According to the field reports, Syrian Army gained control over several hills close to Al Qetar Mountain, located 25 km north-east of the city, following intense clashes with ISIS terrorists. Dozens of the terrorists were left dead or wounded, in addition to destroying their arms, equipment and ammunition. Engineering units of the Syrian Army have since begun to dismantle IEDs and mines, planted by ISIS terrorists at the hills.
The terrorists, however, keep attacking civilians. Earlier on Wednesday, at least 6 people were killed and 32 were left wounded after a roadside bomb went off in Salah Ed Din district of Aleppo.
