Mao Zedong's grandson agrees with Crimean annexation

    March 13, 2017 - Fort Russ News -
PolitNavigator - Translated By James Harmon

The grandson of Mao Zedong, Cao Yunshan visited Crimea. As a chairman of the Chinese association "red memories" and a museum researcher in Shan Shao. Mao's grandson visited Bakhchisarai, Yalta and Sevastopol where the sights were taken in by the famous leader's descendant.

Interviewer: Why did you decide to visit Crimea and Sevastopol?

    - Since my childhood I have heard of Sevastopol as a heroic  city. I knew it was a wonderful wonderful city on the Black Sea. I knew that during the Great Patriotic War, people and the Red Army fought off 250 days of attacks by the Germans. For me, Stalingrad and Sevastopol are the symbols of the victory over fascism.

Interviewer: You did not get bothered by the fact Crimea status is not recognized in the West?

    - I fully agree with the statement that in 2014 the Crimea returned home. I and all the Chinese people are very happy for the Russian people, with whom it happened. I have great respect for President Putin, a very intelligent and powerful man. I decided to see the Russian Crimea.

Interviewer: Do you think that Chinese tourists will be interested in the Crimea?

    - For 2.5 thousand years people have lived here. Crimea may be interested in the Chinese monuments of different epochs: Antiquity, the Crimean War, the Great Patriotic War. Here in the Livadia Palace, the famous Yalta Conference. There is very beautiful nature here. The Chinese must love Crimea. It is unfortunate that many Chinese people do not know how interesting Crimea is.

Interviewer: In Russia, in particular - Sevastopol, they argue, about the meaning of Stalin in Russian history. Your grandfather was friends with that person. Do you think the monuments to Stalin are necessary?

    - Of course, Stalin  is a significant historical figure. He did many good things and many bad things.  I wish to talk about the good - the victory in the Great Patriotic War. Stalin merged the entire Soviet people. We know in China that the soldiers went into battle shouting "For the Motherland! For Stalin!". I believe that it is necessary to put monuments to Stalin, but only in areas associated with fights and victories. In Moscow, I visited the Museum of the Great Patriotic War. There are busts of the great generals: Zhukov, Timoshenko, Malinowski. And next, a bust of Stalin. I think this is correct.
