From now on, Russia will be able to use Iranian military bases for the purposes of fighting against terrorism.
According to the statement, issued by Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Foreign Affairs Minister of Iran on Tuesday, Russia will now be allowed to use the Iranian military bases when fighting against terrorists in Syria.
While speaking to Reuters, Zarif said that while Russia does not have it’s own military bases in Iran, it is nonetheless welcome to use the Iranian bases, in cases of necessity. He further added that the two countries will discuss plenty of regional issues, Syria including.
Zarif is currently in Moscow as part of the Iranian diplomatic and political delegation that arrived in Moscow on Monday at the invitation of the Russian President Vladimir Putin in order to hold bilateral talks on various issues, namely the international and regional security and stability as well as the relations and the cooperation between the two countries.
Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani, already met with the Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and expressed hope for further cooperation between the two countries and improving their ties.
For his part, the Russian Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev, also stated that he hopes that the latest Iranian visit will bring fruitful results and open a new page of history of relations between the two countries.
15 agreements are said to be signed between the two countries, in particularly related to diplomacy, tourism, economy, communications and judiciary. The two presidents will issue a joint statement after their talks at the Kremlin Palace will be over.
