On January 12th, C-SPAN’s broadcasting of American politicians’ speeches was interrupted for 10 minutes by RT broadcasting. The American media resource said such was an error, but political analyst Valeriy Korovin sees in this a certain sign.
Viewers of the American television channel C-SPAN, which was live streaming a session of the securities committee of the US House of Representatives, were unexpectedly left watching a Russian RT program for 10 minutes. The channel has called this a “routing problem that is being investigating and troubleshooting this occurrence.” The RT broadcast switched on right during the speech of California representative Maxine Waters, the very politician who has unsuccessfully attempted to protest the results of the US elections and Donald Trump’s victory by claiming “Russian interference.”
Director of the Center for Geopolitical Expertise, member of the Public Chamber of Russia, and political analyst Valery Korovin considers this broadcasting mishap to be a certain sign: “In my opinion, this was a sign sent to the American authorities that Providence itself is on Russia’s side, on the side of truth. This mishap should give Americans the opportunity to think about how it is impossible to, against all logic and common sense, endlessly trample on the truth and change the course of events, facts, and history to their advantage. In the end, reality itself is starting to protest against this.”
Korovin expressed hope that attitudes in American society towards Russia and Russian media will soon change: “A certain revival is happening in American society, especially with Trump’s election. After his inauguration, the number of people who will realize that the course pursued by the previous administration is fatal will only grow…For now, Americans listened to RT for 10 minutes. I think that the participants of the Congress session could not tear themselves away from listening to the voice of common sense. They are tired of their own lies, and RT was a revelation for them. Perhaps the American elite have been enlightened after all. In the least, they’ll understand that being tough on Russia won’t work out for them. Until then, let them watch Russian TV.”
C-SPAN and C-SPAN 2 are part of basic American cable packages, while C-SPAN 3 can be added to all US cable networks. The total volume of the three C-SPAN channels’ broadcast is more than 7,000 hours a year with an audience of more than 30 million viewers daily.
