The Russian president’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, has revealed what languages the Normandy Four hold their negotiations in.
According to Peskov, Poroshenko tries to speak in three languages. “He jumps into speaking English for some reason, and then everyone starts exchanging confused glances, and then translators react and translate into Russian and Ukrainian,” Peskov said, noting that the Ukrainian president says some things in Russian.
“Putin makes good use of English to talk ‘on the go’ with Hollande for a few minutes,” the press secretary revealed.
Peskov noted that Putin jokes with Merkel in German, which often makes a difficult time for his assistants, who don’t know German.
“In general, the atmosphere is very quick. Everyone perfectly knows the subject,” Peskov concluded.
The first Normandy Four summit in a year was held in Berlin on October 20th. Vladimir Putin, Angela Merkel, Petro Poroshenko, and Francois Hollande spent several hours discussing the situation in Eastern Ukraine.
