The St. Petersburg negotiations between the presidents of Russia and Turkey Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan are the first step towards the implementation of specific solutions, and it is a declaration of intent that promises to become a reality; At the same time, we can say that a rapprochement between the two countries has already occurred, according to political analysts polled by RIA Novosti.

At the meeting, the two heads of state discussed a number of issues of bilateral cooperation.

Today's meeting was the first between the heads of the two states since the incident in November of last year, where a Turkish fighter jet shot down a Russian Su-24 bomber, which caused a crisis in relations between the two countries. The last time that Putin and Erdogan met was on the 16th of November 2015 in Antalya, at the G20 summit.

    A promising first step

According to the director of the International Institute of New States Alexei Martynov, talks between Putin and Erdogan reached their goals, but just as importantly they have made a statement promising to implement these and work towards further goals.

"The very fact that such a working visit to Russia, a meeting in St. Petersburg, where quite frank and qualitative discussions on the most pressing issues of regional and international matters took place, of course, is a definite success ... Of course, in order for something to have been implemented, it should be uttered. Of course, always the most important declaration. In this sense, today's talks is, yes, a declaration of intent, but also significantly a quality declaration and a promise to become a regular practice, ", said Martynov.

Head of the Center for Economic and Political Reforms, Nikolay Mironov, believes that the reset in relations between Russia and Turkey has "definitely occurred," and notes that there is no "deliberate confrontation" as their was earlier, and in his opinion, this change will lead to the mutual benefit of both parties.

"Because of the crisis in relations between the two countries has passed, now the important economic projects that had been frozen, and not only those relating to the" South Stream ", but also nuclear power plants and others generally, both sides have sought in this way to return to a dialogue, and this is what is happening now, ", the RIA quotes Mironov.

Would it not be another failure?

At the same time, Mironov said the main "sequential movement" (the order in which things must happen) in the development of relations between the two countries, has been clearly outlined, and Turkey was in "no rush." However he noted a positive sign in relations between the two countries which  was that Erdogan himself has arrived in Russia.

" That we did not go to see him, but that rather he came to us in Petersburg, thusly showed us that he was ready to change his position, he is ready to change, "- said Mironov.

Martynov, adds to this, he believes that all the conditions of regional relations - and regional and international - provides hope and reason to believe that "all that today that was considered and stated by the leaders of the two countries in St. Petersburg, will be fulfilled."
