Duma: "Americans don't want NATO sending their sons to their deaths"

The head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of the US Armed Forces, Joseph Dunford, stated that Russia is attempting to “undermine NATO” and announced that the leadership is aware of and fears related problems. This was stated on Wednesday by the head of the Duma Defense committee, Vladimir Komoedov.

“It’s funny when a colossus standing on shaky legs says that someone is undermining its unity. Russia has never pursued such a task. On the contrary, we have always talked about building normal relations with NATO,” Komoedov is quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.

According to him, the USSR was among the first who wanted to join NATO. In 1954, the country applied for membership in the alliance but was declined. “Afterwards, understanding that there has to be a strong force to keep another force at bay***, created its own counterweight to NATO, the Warsaw Pact,” the deputy added.

Komoedov remarked that NATO contributed to the formation of a unipolar world following the collapse of the Soviet Union and has no intention of accepting Russia's rapid improvement of its armed forces and development of its military, technological, and political cooperation with countries not included in the NATO bloc.

“The statement of General Dunford is evidence of the elementary fear which NATO’s leadership is experiencing in seeing the problems of its member countries,” the politician believes.

In his opinion, the majority of Europeans and Americans do not support the alliance’s aggressive policy as evidenced by “critical statements by the opposition in all of the member countries.” He noted: “They do not want to send their fathers and sons to their deaths in hot spots on the planet which NATO itself created through its ill-considered operations.”

In this regard, Komoedov called on NATO to return to the negotiating table with Russia and consolidate their positions together. Otherwise, in his opinion, inevitable collapse awaits NATO.
