Russian ambassador to Ukraine's dismissal signals new diplomatic approach

Following Russian Ambassador Mikhail Zubarov’s resignation, relations between Russia and Ukraine will change significantly and become more formal, something which Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is not too fond of. This was explained by political analyst Mikhail Pokrebinsky to Zvezda radio station.

“For Poroshenko, Zubarov’s departure means that Moscow no longer needs such ‘informal’ relations and that it is switching to the ‘formal’ format. For Poroshenko as a businessman who is used to resolving many issues informally, this will be uncomfortable,” Pogrebinsky stated.

Earlier, reports surfaced that the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Russia to Ukraine, Mikhail Zubarov, had been dismissed. The corresponding decree was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, July 28th. The charge d’affaires of the Russian Federation in Ukraine is now Sergey Toropov.
