Nationalist deputies of the Verkhovna Rada disrupted the morning secession in demanding that Alexander Vilkul from the “Opposition Bloc” cease speaking from the podium in Russian.

During Vilkul’s speech, the Maidanite Vladimir Parasyuk ran up to the podium and turned over the microphone, thus interrupting the speech.

Deputy and battalion commander Yury Timoshenko then came to aid Parasyuk and grabbed Vilkul by the coat. He began shouting that according to law speeches in parliament must be in Ukrainian. Vice-speaker Irina Gerashchenko, who chaired the session, attempted to calm her colleagues for the sake of maintaining a “European” parliament.

“Dear colleagues, I am happy to speak in Ukrainian if I will be forced to. But we are free people in a free country, and we can speak in the language that is most convenient for us,” Vilkul said once given the opportunity to speak.

Following these words, however, the nationalists once again attacked Vilkul.

Geraschenko had no choice but to adjourn the session.
