The Syrian Army, supported by militia brigades, has repelled an attack by Jabhat al-Nusra militants and their allied groups west of the city of Aleppo, RIA Novosti reports citing a source among Aleppo militias.
“The Al-Nusra terrorists and their allies attempted to attack positions of the army and militias west of Aleppo. The attack was so large that the army had to request support from the Syrian Air Force, whose strikes killed several dozen militants,” the agency’s source recounted.
Sputnik reports citing its own source that the militants attacked the city from five directions at once. However, the terrorists retreated after the air force’s operation.
As of now there is no information as to losses among military personnel and militia.
The situation in Aleppo dramatically deteriorated about a week ago. Over several days, terrorists conducted mortar and rocket shelling of residential areas of the city including the center. As a result, more than 100 civilians were killed.
The Syrian Army in turn identified and destroyed the terrorists’ improvised rocket-launch sites and mortar pads.
