EU Ambassador in Moscow Vygaudas Usackas commented on the resolution of the Council of the Italian region of Veneto, adopted on Wednesday, March 18th. Members of Parliament of one of the most developed regions of Italy actually recognized Crimea as part of Russia and voted for the abolition of anti-Russian sanctions.

Ušackas said that the resolution is advisory in nature and non-binding. He made this statement on the air of the radio station "Vesti FM".

"On the one hand, no one in Russia and the European Union feels comfortable when our neighbours accept any restrictive measures. On the other hand, what you said, the resolution in Venice, and formerly in the French Parliament, have a recommendatory character and are not obligatory for execution," – said the Ambassador.

The resolution of the Council of Veneto urged the Italian government to condemn the policy of the European Union against Crimea. They voted for the right of the population of the Peninsula to determine their own fate.

In late April, deputies of the lower house of the French Parliament also voted for a resolution on the abolition of anti-Russian sanctions.
