Verkhovna Rada deputies staged a brawl near the rostrum in the session hall of the Parliament due to the fact that the representative of the faction "Opposition bloc" - Oleksandr Vilkul - spoke in Russian. This was reported on Friday, May 13th, by "Interfax-Ukraine".

The brawl was started by the MP from the faction "Popular Front" Yuri Tymoshenko, who ran up to Vilkul and tried to push his counterpart from the podium. Parliamentarians then clashed.

First Vice-speaker Irina Gerashchenko was forced to prematurely adjourn the meeting, which angered some present members.

In February, a brawl happened in Odessa at the laying of flowers at the monument to the Heavenly Hundred (dead participants of the riots and winter of 2013-2014) due to the speech of the head of the Odessa regional Council Anatoly Urbansky in Russian.

In 2014, Parliament abolished the law on principles of a state language policy, which allowed the use of regional languages in official records in areas where at least 10 percent of the population consider their native language not to be Ukrainian.
