The founder of the national guard battalion Azov, Andrey Biletsky, promises to change the current Kiev government if it consents to the holding of elections in Donbass.
Currently, the nationalists together with representatives of the extremist movement Right Sector (banned in Russia) are holding a rally outside of the Verkhovna Rada. The radicals have periodically lit smoke bombs and exploded firecrackers.
“The government is now actively blurring this issue by claiming that there will be no elections. But there will be because they want them to be held. Because they promised the West and Russia during Minsk 2…Today, this is only the beginning, but not the final action. We must be vigilant and expect this betrayal at every second, because they are quietly going to try to hold these elections…In the case of these traitorous elections being held, we will kick out this Rada and presidential administration and find new deputies,” Biletsky is quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.
On May 19th, the head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, Alexander Zakharchenko, stated that Donbass is not going to tolerate Kiev’s delay in implementing the Minsk agreements. According to him, if the Ukrainian authorities do not fulfill their obligations by autumn of this year, then elections will take place in the republic no matter what.
Calls to put pressure on the Ukrainian government to fulfill the Minsk agreements are occasionally heard in the West as well. Previously, one of the founders of the French Socialist Party, the former minister of defense and internal affairs of France, Jean-Pierre Chevenement, stated that it was necessary to “pressure Kiev.”
