Washington has called on Moscow to cease the Syrian army's offensive and participate in the truce with the opposition in Aleppo, reports Bloomberg referring to a source in the US State Department.
"The Obama administration expressed grave concern about Russia, which was expected to not participate in military operations against gangs involved in the truce," — reports the Agency "Interfax".
Previously, US Secretary of State John Kerry, in a telephone conversation with Minister of foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov, promised to influence the Syrian opposition for the purpose of compliance with the ceasefire.
A source at the US State Department said earlier that Washington is concerned about reports that Russian troops allegedly could support the Syrian army in the fighting in Aleppo. Moscow, in turn, called for efforts to influence the Syrian opposition who are in breach of the truce, the Foreign Ministry stressed that any attack on Aleppo is not underway.
The Defense Ministry in turn stated that militants from the terrorist group "Jabhat al-Nusra", at least 400 people backed by tanks, launched an offensive on the Syrian government forces in Aleppo.
The recent fighting in Aleppo is becoming more active, but it involves the Syrian forces against the "Jabhat al-Nusra" militants. Moreover, the Russian Defense Ministry has repeatedly warned that terrorists intend to start their offensive.
