Interpol has requested additional materials from Russia related to the addition of the former YUKOS head Mikhail Khodorkovsky to the international wanted list. This has been reported by Interfax in reference to a source “familiar with the situation.”

“Interpol has stated that it is ready to reconsider its position on the issue of adding Khodorkovsky to the international wanted list, who is accused of murdering the mayor of Nefteyugansk, and requested that the Russian side provide additional materials,” the source reported.

The agreement was reached as a result of talks between Moscow and Interpol, and Russia will soon relay the requested documents to the police. The reason why Lyon (where the head Interpol office is located) has decided to reconsider its position on the investigation for Khodorkovsky remains unknown.

As reported earlier by Russian BBC, the ex-head of YUKOS, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, is preparing to ask for political asylum in the UK.

“I am considering various possibilities. One of them is requesting political asylum in the UK. But I am not ready to talk about this,” Khodorkovsky stated.

It was also reported earlier that the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has announced an international warrant for Khodorkovsky and has arrested him in absentia for organizing the murder of the mayor of Nefteyugansk.

The disgraced businessman currently lives in Switzerland. According to local law-enforcement, the request for his extradition is to be considered between the next 18-40 days. A refusal to extradite him would serve to protect him from "prosecution based on political motives."
