Polish Journalist Offers to Send Volyn Massacre Song to Eurovision

Translated by Ollie Richardson for Fort Russ

Polish journalist Tomasz Maciejczuk wrote on his Facebook page:

Eurovision songs about tragedies of the past

Ukraine decided to submit to the Eurovision a song about the tragedy of the Crimean Tatars, while urging Ukrainians to forget the past and build a future. In connection with this I offered to send a Polish song about the Volyn massacre to the Eurovision song contest, but of course the Ukrainians did not like this idea. Why is this so? Because the Ukrainians are allowed to remember only the crimes of Moscow. Crimes of the bandits of the OUN and UPA should be forgotten, but if you don't want to forget - you are an agent of the Kremlin, you sold out to Putin.
Controversial Russian politician Vitaly Milonov also thought that if the Ukrainians are singing about the history and crimes of the past, then maybe we need to remind Ukrainians about the horrible crimes of the UPA in Volhynia? Here I can agree with this man. We can't forget the crimes of the past, or we are going to make the same mistakes in the future.
By the way, we have songs about the UPA and Volhynia. The most interesting thing about Volyn is that it is remembered more by young poles than the Poles who were born during the USSR. Example? Here's a song by some Polish guy. He immediately explains to Ukrainians - no, he's not on the payroll of the Kremlin, he's just a Polish patriot.

    Lyrics:

About the crimes, which many have forgotten
The school did not tell their story
Blood on the wings of a white eagle
Our emblem and coat of arms of the Second Polish Republic
It started back in pre-war Poland,
    the first murder, anti-Polish actions
    Performed by this organization
Lviv was still a Polish town
But it is not by someone else's wishes
    Here Ukrainian nationalists
In their ranks did the cleaning
But the Poles wanted to destroy primarily
    At their head Stepan Bandera
    Ukraine today it whitens
Despite the fact that the views are like Hitler's
With the Führer supporting this execution

    Chorus

They were acting under the bloody flag
Against the poles with murder and terror
    Volhynia was Polish land
Ukraine pays homage to their heroes
They acted under a bloody flag
Against the poles with murder and terror
    Podolia was not Polish land
Ukraine pays homage to their heroes

When the second world war started
Poland had ceased to be free
A chance was sensed by this savage horde
The 42nd creates the armed formation OUN
    The Ukrainian insurgent army [UPA]
    Also heroic name, true
However, the disgusting murderers from UPA
Wanted to destroy everything that is Polish
In the year of 43 our beautiful Kresy:
    Volhynia, Podolia, Eastern Malopolska
    There was a massive crime
    Many villages burned like torches
    Against the inhabitants, torment, torture
Women and children could be heard howling
    Without mercy
Traces of Polskosc left the surface of the earth

    Chorus

They acted under the bloody flag
Against the poles with murder and terror
Lesser Poland was not Polish land
Ukraine pays homage to their heroes
They acted under the bloody flag
Against the poles with murder and terror
    Lviv was a Polish town
    Ukraine claps their heroes

This song is dedicated to the butchers of poles
They were shouting: Glory to Ukraine, Death to the Polaks or the Poles
    Some are still shouting
Polish media are silent about it
    as is public opinion
The Polish political scene apologises for actions in Vistula
    It's some illogical mockery!
Nobody in Poland apologized for the murder
    For the guilt Ukraine carries
    Just Ukrainian heroes
Killing children, women, and heroic battles
    What do these bitches mean?
Light a candle at the mass grave
Remember that it were the poles for many years,
Although some would like to rewrite history
Poland will not forget these atrocities

    Chorus

They acted under the bloody flag
Against the poles with murder and terror
    Volhynia was Polish land
Ukraine pays tribute to its heroes
They acted under the bloody flag
Against the poles with assassination and terror
    Malopolska was not Polish land
Ukraine pays homage to their heroes
They acted under the bloody flag
Against the poles with murder and terror
Lesser Poland was not Polish land
Ukraine pays homage to their heroes
They acted under the bloody flag
Against the poles with murder and terror
    Lviv was a Polish town
    Ukraine claps their heroes
