The German Foreign Ministry does not consider fair the accusation made by the Ambassador of Ukraine, Andriy Melnyk, that the attitude towards Russia is "overly friendly".

Earlier, the German newspaper Welt said that the Ukrainian Ambassador, in answering the question on whether or not Berlin's course towards Moscow is too friendly, replied: "Of course".

"These conciliatory signals from Berlin are seen as a weakness. They are not considered as concessions or negotiation tactics," quoted the newspaper from Melnyk.

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Martin Schäfer, responded to the statements of the Ukrainian Ambassador, noting that Berlin does not distinguish between Moscow and Kiev when talking about the need to comply with the provisions of the Minsk agreements.

"After the meeting (The eleventh meeting of Ministers in the "Normandy format" in Paris - ed.), the German Foreign Minister, if you recall, was to some extent disappointed with the progress of the Minsk process. And he didn't differentiate between people in Moscow and Kiev, who, obviously, are not currently ready to make the necessary political steps to ensure that the Minsk process is fulfilled," said Schäfer. According to him, Frank-Walter Steinmeier called on both sides to move towards each other, not just one.

Moscow has repeatedly stated that it is not a party to the domestic conflict, and is interested in Ukraine overcoming the political and economic crisis.
