"Samopomich" Party Approves Resolution on the Resignation of Yatsenyuk

    13th February, 2016

Ukrainian party "Samopomich" (Self Help) has approved a resolution on the resignation of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and Prime Minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk. The decision was taken at the party Congress on Saturday.

Earlier "Samopomich" announced the collection of signatures for the resignation of the current Cabinet of Ministers.

"The resignation of the government of Arseniy Yatsenyuk is the only possible civilized assessment of the Cabinet. This is the only way to prevent the formal collapse of the coalition, the appointment of new parliamentary elections, which can become a serious challenge for our country", — quoted the Agency Unian.

The resolution stresses that such claims "are a matter of national security".

"Samopomich" also called on other political forces to join efforts to exit the situation.

In addition, the Congress of "Samopomich" also adopted a resolution regarding amendments to the Constitution, which was submitted to Parliament for the vote of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. The resolution states the presidential initiative is not in the interests of Ukraine. Separately it noted that, in the opinion of the party, the special status of Donbass territories "threatens the existence of Ukraine as a state". "Samopomich" offered to start "the process of creating a new Constitution for Ukraine."

At the beginning of the year, Ukraine faced another political crisis. On the one hand, there is a need for a change of government headed by Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, who no longer enjoys the support of neither the society nor the trust of the President of Petro Poroshenko. On the other hand, the resignation of the current head of the Cabinet threatens early parliamentary elections, which is against the wishes of the West. In addition, Western partners of Ukraine, including the IMF, expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of reform in the country, in particular, the fight against corruption. On Tuesday, February 16th, the Cabinet of Ministers will report to Parliament on its work over the past year, then the Parliament may consider the resignation of the government.
