The envoy of the self-proclaimed DPR in the Contact group, Denis Pushilin, in response to the proposals of the Ukrainian deputies on renaming of settlements of Donbass and Crimea as part of decommunization, advised to first destroy the enterprises and infrastructure from the Soviet era.

"It is necessary to demolish the "Khrushchev" and "Stalinka" era dwelling houses, as it is a source of communist evil. Things built in the Soviet era, factories, mills and mines, and things used ever since, train carriages, elevators, equipment in schools, hospitals and institutions should be destroyed, uprooting and erasing even the slightest mention of the great country that did a lot of good for Ukraine" — said Pushilin to Donetsk news Agency.

"I also suggest to some people's deputies of Ukraine, according to the same "decommunization" program, to change the names, such as: Alekseev, Pavlov, Popov, Frolov and Gerasimov, because they can be lustrated due to their non- Ukrainian names, — said the authorized representative to the Agency.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, on Thursday, adopted a resolution renaming four cities, one district and 160 villages and settlements as part of the process of decommunization. The head of the Institute of national remembrance, Volodymyr Viatrovych, said that the Ukrainian authorities intend to rename the settlements under their control in the territories of Donbass and Crimea, which became part of Russia.

In May 2015, in Ukraine, the law "about the condemnation of the Communist and Nazi regimes" prohibiting propaganda of Soviet symbols entered into force. It implies, in particular, the renaming of cities and streets named after Soviet statesman. The Ukrainian Institute of national memory, who published the list, which includes 520 historical figures, whose activities are subject to the law of decommunization, and whose reference, therefore, should disappear from geographical names. According to the Institute, before the end of November 2016, 943 settlements will be renamed, whilst the large cities of Dnepropetrovsk and Kirovograd will face a separate decision.
