Ukraine's New Sanctions Against Russia Become Active

    2nd January, 2016

Ukraine has imposed new trade sanctions against Russia. The response of Kiev mirrors Moscow's decision to suspend a free trade area with Ukraine within the CIS and to begin the food embargo on Ukrainian goods.

From 1st January, Russia banned the import of meat, dairy products, vegetables and fruits from Ukraine. Kiev in response developed and adopted a law, according to which Ukraine will forbid some Russian goods. The second resolution, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada, concerning the rates of import duty for Russian goods, states that they will now be subject to additional tax.

The Ministry of economic development of Ukraine has already published a list of banned goods. These include vodka, confectionery and chocolate products, meat, baby food, fish, processed cheeses, beer, cigarettes and animal feed.
