The Foreign Ministers of the League of Arab States gathered on Sunday for an emergency meeting in connection with the crisis in relations between Riyadh and Tehran. Relations between Riyadh and Tehran deteriorated after January 2nd when the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Saudi Arabia announced the execution of 47 people for terrorism and incitement, including Shiite preacher al-Nimr. The execution of the preacher was condemned in Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon.
In Tehran demonstrators stormed the Embassy, and set fire to the Consulate of Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Sudan announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Iran. The UAE has lowered the level of diplomatic relations, Kuwait and Comoros had announced the withdrawal of ambassadors from Iran.
Iran, after the rupture of diplomatic relations, decided to ban all shipments of products from Saudi Arabia. On Thursday, Tehran announced a Saudi airstrike on the Iranian Embassy in Yemen, where some guards were victims.
