Internally displaced persons in the territory of the People's Republic of Donetsk number about 10 thousand people, but this number is gradually declining with the rebuilding of their homes, said managing director of the DNI Ombudsman Office, Dmitri Popov.

"To date, IDPs in the territory of the DNR number about 10 thousand, but we must note that they are becoming less because the war-damaged housing is getting restored. This is done both by the republic itself, and thanks to the help of the Russian Federation, and people are returning to their city. There is a downward trend," he said.

According to the Ombudsman's office, about a thousand people from the Kiev-controlled parts of Donbas have taken refuge in the DNR

"As for those who came to us from the territory temporarily occupied by the Ukrainian authorities, they are about a thousand. These are the people who have been exposed to pressure from the security forces, especially on the part of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). And they fear for their lives and the lives of their loved ones, and have come to us with their entire families. We place them, and see that their needs are met, and help them find jobs," said Popov.

He also noted that representatives of the United Nations continue to work on fixing up DNR infrastructure ruined as a result of war. "A few days ago we visited Shakhtersk, and talked to the victims. UN officials were there also talking to the victims in the framework of their mandate. Next we are planning to visit Ilovaysk.

All the facts and details are included in a report and they are sending it to the head office of the United Nations," said the chief of the DNR Ombudsman Office.
