The Prime Minister of Georgia has welcomed the statement of Vladimir Putin on the abolition of visas. Irakli Garibashvili has called the Russian President's proposal a step in the right direction, reports "RIA Novosti".
Garibashvili recalled that the Georgian government in 2011 abolished the visa regime for citizens of Russia, and this year Georgia has increased the terms of stay of Russian citizens.
On the 17th December, during the annual press conference, Vladimir Putin said that Russia is ready to abolish the visa regime with Georgia. Now Russian citizens can visit Georgia without a visa, however, residents of the Republic of Georgia must obtain permission to visit Russia.
