Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu accused the head of the People's Democratic Party (HDP) Selahattin Demirtas of "treason" after the HDP leader sided with Russia over the downing of a Russian jet last month. Speaking from Ankara, Thursday, Davutoglu condemned Demirtas' recent remarks which he made on Wednesday after visiting Moscow, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Demirtas comments over the downing of the Russian jet emerged during a meeting with Lavrov yesterday. He is the first high-ranking Turkish politician to visit Moscow since the shooting down of the Russian Sukhoi Su-24 jet along the Turkish-Syrian border on November 24.
